How come all of a sudden I don’t want to go to a four year school?

I just want to get an associates in emergency medical technology. what is the difference between an EMT and a paramedic? how do you become a paramedic after getting an associates in emergency medical technology? Should I apply to a community college that offers it? Bangor Comm. College offers a certificate in emergency medical technology but fairfield community college offers an associates. what is the difference and which is better? Should I just forget my qualms and go for a four year degree in Chemistry or Biology and then see if I want to become a paramedic?
p.s. those schools don’t have deadlines I don’t think.
